Current radioactive ecological situation on the agricultural lands

During 12 years since the Chernobyl nuclear power plant catastrophe the radiation situation in the country underwent considerable changes in the course of the following:

  • Natural effects (processes) (natural disintegration of the radioactive nucleus, their fixation and redistribution in the different components of the environment, other);
  • Implementation of the comprehensive counter-measures, which were aimed at the reduction of the radiation levels and establishment of the radioecologically safe conditions for people’s living on the radioactively contaminated territories.

The radioecological situation on the contaminated territories is monitored on the basis of data, produced by the radioecological monitoring and radiation survey. Radioactive ecological situation is determined by the density of the soil contamination and levels of the contamination of products in accordance with the standards, which were approved in 1997 (see Table 3.26.).
