Observations of the total content of ozone over the territory of Ukraine in 1998 were carried out at 5s ozonometric stations located in the Karadag reserve in the Autonomous Republic of the Crimea (Feodosiya Region), and in the cities of Kyiv, Boryspil, Odesa and Lviv. Diurnal average deviation of the values of total content of ozone from the climatic norm in , units (standard deviations) and average value of s for the whole year were calculated from all observation results. These figures make it possible to estimate a tendency towards a change of the state of the ozone layer. If the deviations of the values of total ozone content is within the limits from – 2.0s to – 2.5s, this means a critical situation, and when the total content of ozone is equal or below – 2.5s, this evidences an ozone anomaly (“hole”). A complete absence of ozone anomalies is characteristic of 1998, and only once did the deviation of total ozone content from the climatic norm reach the critical limit. Annual average values of total ozone content in 1996, 1997 and 1998 were 332, 333 and
345 Dobson’s units, respectively, which indicates a certain improvement of the state of
ozone layer over Ukraine.
